Tops & Kurtis
How annoying is it when you wear a tee or a top or a kurti and go to an event and someone there exactly pinpoints which brand that is from?! Even worse, how miserable when someone else too is wearing the same outfit as you, may be just styled it a bit differently. None of that can happen with our tops & kurtas / kurtis, coz are all one of a kind, meaning you will never come across another person wearing the same that you're wearing. Each and every piece is unique and completely handmade. That makes each and every one of it incredibly special.
The fabrics range from handloom, khadi (handspun and handloom) and rarely a millmade fabric as an addition to handmade fabrics. The color range is huge from pristine whites to subtle beiges to stark pinks to deep blues, mostly derived from natural sources – the natural dyes extracted from plants like turmeric, Indian madder, indigo etc, that are completely eco-friendly, whose production, processing and wastes do not pollute or poison Mother Earth.
The height of these tops varies from just touching the hips (short tops) to upto knee (long tops or knee length tops). The fabrics vary from sheer and lacey to thick and opaque fabrics. The sleeve length vary from sleeveless tops to short sleeved tops to full sleeved tops. The neck design varies from simple V necks and boat necks to very complex shaped necklines that follow the print design! Most of the tops have a side slit till hips or higher making it comfortable for movement, keeping your ergonomics in mind.
The tops are adorned with various specialties like stripes and checks made with handloom, a hint of bling with zari used in weaving as well as embroidery like zardozi and aari, textures created by weaving, hand embroidery like smocking, sewing like machine smocking, pin tucks etc, motifs created using hand block printing, resist dyeing like batik, tie and dye etc, hand embroidery like thread work, appliqué, patch work etc as well as hand machine embroidery, and the best of all, hand woven techniques like Warp ikat (single ikat), warp & weft ikat (double ikat), dobby, jacquard etc.
The shorter tops are very versatile. Wear it with short or knee length skirts, shorts or even skorts on a casual day out or shopping or a beach date or a fun evening with friends where dress code isn't an issue. Venture to your favourite club in town on a night out, with the short tops with a hint of bling and sparkle in it! Wear the same tops with longer skirts and add a stole and you're good to go to a family get together, to meet elders or even a temple or a traditional cultural performance. Wear the same tops with jeans are you're all set for your college or a day out with friends to shopping or movie date!
